Can't create MS Word docs in Dropbox anymore
I'm a long-term user of Dropbox and I love it's use ability and function. To my dismay, in the past year or so I seem to have lost the ability to create Microsoft Word documents in Dropbox. This is a feature I used regularly, and now it seems to be a long and clumsy process. Let me explain how it used to work and now doesn't. I would go into Dropbox on my Android phone, Select the folder I wanted to create the Microsoft Word document in and then Select the "Plus Symbol" found in the blue circle :blue_circle: found floating on lower right hand corner (that option is still there) after selecting the Plus Sign we are presented with an option to "Create or upload file" After selecting that option, I would be presented with a drop-down list of files I could create. These would include the 3 native Dropbox options of "Paper" "Text File" & 'Upload Files" as well as a list of Microsoft file types, which included MS Word & Excel and maybe PowerPoint. I would then select MS Word, and a MS Word document would be created and MS Word App would be seamlessly be activated and away I would go, creating content and saving it safely in Dropbox. Happy days! Now unfortunately when I select "Create or upload file" only the 3 native Dropbox options appear, no longer can I select a Microsoft Document type. I'm not sure why this change has occurred, and there is a work around I've found, but it's clumsy and time consuming and certainly doesn't have the elegance of what I was used to with seamless integration and function. My question is, how can I get the elegant integrated "create" MS Word option/ solution in Dropbox back, I don't want a clumsy work around.
Sync local library files (from a 3rd party app) with Dropbox on Mac
Hi, I have an app on my Mac which saves all its files on the local drive, in the user's library folder. There's no option to change that, nor can I move them to the Dropbox folder. How can I auto-sync those library files with Dropbox, so that I have a backup?
Can I sync a folder in Apps to a shared project (possible symlink/shortcut question)?
I have a problem, that quite possibly has already been answered in this community, but the last time it was brought up was several years ago so I figured I should pose the question again. I have Overleaf projects synced to my Dropbox where they are all located in `/Apps/Overleaf/`, additionally, I have a folder that is shared between myself and several colleagues where we are working on a joint project, let's call it `/shared_projects/project_01/`. One of these colleges (the one who hosts the original folder) is very against using Overleaf and writes all his documents on a LaTeX editor locally on his machine, hence why we're using Dropbox and not just sharing an Overleaf project directly. To get my material on Overleaf, I have to actively and manually move new material in `/shared_projects/project_01/` over into the corresponding folder `/Apps/Overleaf/project_01/` via copy/paste. We are about to start a new project, let's call it `/shared_projects/project_02/`, and I'd like this project to be synchronized to a corresponding folder in Overleaf, `/Apps/Overleaf/project_02/`. This would normally, be very easy if I could just create a symlink from`/Apps/Overleaf/project_02/` and put that in `/shared_projects/`, but I have tried this and the symlink is not showing up in Dropbox. I created the symlink in my Windows subsystem for Linux (WSL2) running a Linux version of Dropbox (following these instructions on GitHub) hoping it would work, as according toCan Dropbox sync symlinks?: "On computers running macOS or Linux, the path of the file or folder the symlink points to can be synced to Dropbox." Now, I fully understand that WSL2 is not technically Linux, but actually somewhere in between a full-blown Linux OS and just a bunch of libraries that are running on Windows (e.g. Cygwin). Ultimately, doing things via a symlink route does not really matter to me as much as just getting a functional solution going, so if anyone could aid in finding a fix to my problem, I'd greatly appreciate it!
I can't enable Dropbox Backup as there's a conflict with iCloud.
I am trying to set up Dropbox Backup, and when I selected Desktop, Documents, and Downloads to be backed up, it told me to disable the iCloud backup of these folders. When I attempted to do that, it said all of my files would be deleted from my computer and stored in iCloud-and any new files or folders would not be stored in iCloud. I want to use Dropbox to backup these files and folders, but do not want all of those files to be deleted from my computer. Any other way to do this?
