Shared Links
651 TopicsPlease don't block me from generating a link for a file that hasn't finished uploading
A new "feature" has been implemented where if I drop a new file in a DB folder, and then go to click on "Copy Dropbox Link", it simply won't perform the task until the file has finished uploading. Apparently this is to "prevent 404 errors". The "error" page that comes up when you clicked on a link before it had finished uploading was actually a "Uh Oh! File hasn't finished uploading yet". This to me isn't an "error" page and shouldn't be treated as such. It's clear and communicates exactly what it needs to and doesn't warrant a restriction in functionality for the rest of the users. The solution you've silently implementedhas caused a monstrous delay in my daily workflow. I work in a fast paced environment, generating new content every hour and sharing it with dozens of people in my team. The fact that I can simply drop files and right-click and "copy link" and THEN carry on with the rest of my tasks while keeping an eye out for the spinning icon in the tray and THEN send the copied link to my recipients, means that I am FLOWING. When I have to do that dozens of times per hour, if you block me from generating a link as soon as I drop it in the DB folder, you're forcing me to having to RETURN back to DB a second time in the process. You've added a whole extra step, and it's absolutely killed my flow.Solved22KViews55likes95CommentsRemove "Login/SignUp" Dialog box from shared link download
Currently, when I send a client a link to download a file using the Dropbox share file functionality, they are directed to a preview page. When they click the Download button, they are presented with a dialog box prompting them to sign in or sign up for Dropbox. At the bottom of this dialog box, in text that more closely resembles a legal disclaimer, they are given the option to download without signing up. As a paid user, I cannot entertain this dark UI feature. If I need to provide clients with an instruction manual on how to work around a dark UI feature, then it makes me look really cheap and really hacky. Not only does it make me look bad, but it's also a really nasty look for the Dropbox brand. Feel free to keep grubbing for frustrated free user signups, but know that it is coming at the expense of long-time paid users. You have 30 days.5.8KViews7likes7CommentsOpen dropbox links directly in explorer (windows) or in finder (mac)
This is the most important request ever! And it should be already implemented. Is to open dropbox links directly in explorer (windows) or in finder (mac), independent where the link is, whatsapp, slack, messenger, skype, any of then. Is a link, when i click today,. it always open the browser (Edge on Win and Safari on Mac), but should have an option, or in my point of view, the defult should be open in explorer/win and finder/mac. That is the way it should be. You can ask any computer user, and i know a lot ask for this and post helps about it. So, why still isn't like that? And most important, can you please do it fast? All community will give you a lot of love and more subscriptions back. Thank you!3.3KViews6likes2Commentsview only link for everyone says Join Folder, Copy to Dropbox, Download. I DON'T want Join Folder.
I create printables I share on Etsy, and because the files are so large, I send a dropbox folder link. It USED to be that the page the link went to would have the choices at top Copy to Dropbox and Download ONLY. Now every link has Join Folder, Copy to Dropbox, and Download. I keep getting email requests to join the folder, which is really annoying. I just want someone to be able to download the files, and that's it. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to make the Join Folder go away! I've tried everything I can think of and nothing changes. I'm going crazy.Solved16KViews6likes78CommentsI am getting an error 403 when accessing a link through an email. Can you help?
I clicked on a link from an email to open a file and it took me to an error page that said I should sign in. I am signed in. I was able to open this file two days ago and now I can't. Help, please.Solved11KViews4likes16CommentsWhy can't we shorten shared link URLs on Dropbox?
The email in question... I'm sending a link to a client and the link is longer than the email itself. It looks so unprofessional to the extent that it looks like spam. Yes I could hide the link in html but some clients like to copy and paste the link directly from the email, for example when needing to pass on the link through another platfrom. Why is there no way to shorten this within Dropbox? Is it really that hard to implement? I'm aware there are third party options to do this but I pay for dropbox, I don't feel like I should be having to look for workarounds with questionable security. Box com does custom shared urls. Onedrive and Sharepoint do shorter links. Backblaze does Friendly URLS. Youtube does a short link and even google forms offered me a short link option. Feels like I'm stuck in 2010. Is this an issue for anyone else or is it just me?506Views3likes4CommentsShared link asks viewers to request access. Why does this happen?
Greetings. I have a shared file set to be viewable by anyone with the link, and I've sent the link to those I want to view the file (see screenshot). However, when they access the link, Dropbox states they "do not have access to this file" and offers the option to request access, which I must individually approve. I have other files configured with these same settings, and those with whom I've shared those links can access them without any separate approval. I don't know why this particular file is different. Am I missing something?Solved16KViews3likes66CommentsUpdating a file changes the link...
I noticed today that editing a file and resaving it without changing the name now changes the Dropbox link, and it definitely didn't used to do that before. That was one of the great things with Dropbox, you could update a document without having to worry about whoever had the shared link needing to get a new one.Solved3.4KViews3likes6Comments
