I'm curious - what prompted you to download Dropbox on Desktop? What is the reason for working on desktop versus going to Dropbox on web? Do you use both? Also for those that use Web - for what reason do you not have Dropbox installed on your desktop? Would love to hear everyone's input on this!10KViews3likes25CommentsThe Dropbox desktop application will no longer be supported for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 on October 22nd
Congratulations Dropbox! You've just put the nail in the coffin of all W7 users who prefer not to be spied on and constantly used for data scraping! Well done. If the constant scaremonger nagging about running out of space, the constant begging to upgrade, the incessant app updating demands, the constant USB device interrogation upon connection wasn't enough of an incentive to finally ditch Dropbox for good, then the cutting off of users of a still perfectly good and functional, non-spyware infested OS will be the last straw. Thank you Dropbox for giving me the incentive to go to your competitors instead and get out of your ever more bloated crapware ecosystem. Sometimes, people need a little push to get away from what's comfortable and familiar, even though they suspect just how bad that relationship is for them. I thank you Dropbox for giving me this little push. Goodbye.5.9KViews7likes19CommentsWhy can't I backup up any folder with Dropbox Backup?
We recently upgraded to Dropbox business and I am trying to give guidance to our team members for using dropbox backup to backup key folders from their computers. I cannot seem to figure this out. When I go thru the desktop app / preferences / backup the only folders that are available are shown here. How do I get an option to select any folder on my C drive? ThanksSolved3.2KViews1like12CommentsJust one Dropbox folder (not the main) on an external drive
hi, I would like to understand if it was possible to have the Dropbox folder on the internal hard disk of the computer, and in case of large project, decide to synchronize a folder from an external hard disk. I'll give an example, we have all the files of a video project in Dropbox folder inside the computer, but the renderings, which are very heavy, have them on an external hard drive, which is synchronized as if it were inside the computer in ten top box folder. in our office we want to mount a nas with all the Dropbox content (around 50tb locally), and have other computers on the same network with their own local folder that synchronizes faster since Dropbox uses the network between the computers to make the sincronizzati on faster. however, since the internal hard disks of computers are never so large, having some extra folders on external hard disks (synchronized with Dropbox) could help the workflow, and in any case have the central NAS always synchronized with everything (internal and external hdd folder). do you have any advice on how to manage the Dropbox in this situation ?3.1KViews0likes3CommentsDropbox app uploading in online only outside of the Dropbox folder.
I've used the free Dropbox for a while but just went to a paid version and would also like to use the Dropbox app to make file transfer and organization easier. In my case with most files I want them to be online only in order to save hard drive space. I see that files must be in online only mode via right clicking which is a welcome choice and even better it appears to be the default option when I upload files to the website directly. Awesome so far! However, if I drag files into the Dropbox drive made available by the Dropbox app after they upload they are both existing in that Dropbox folder while also simultaneously in the original location on my hard drive. This isn't a surprise at all, although I was hoping to find some workaround to be able to drag files into the drive and keep them online only while being able to easily organize them so long as I don't download back to my hard drive. I tried to select all and make them all online only and after waiting for them to convert I checked the file size of the root Dropbox folder and it was unchanged. So here I am hoping to find a way to use the Dropbox app to upload files without copying them into that Dropbox folder on my actual hard drive. Can anybody help out please? I did try the manage hard drive space tool accessed from right clicking on the Dropbox drive, but it claims I have no offline files, whereas the folder itself is exactly the same size as the original files it contains despite most of them being uploaded directly to the website without even using the app. I'm confused by that.Solved2.7KViews0likes7CommentsMAC OSX - Can someone explain the how the Dropbox folder within Finder works?
I really need help here as my brain has never been good with organisation and I'm easily confused by technology. SO... I need to understand how the dropbox folder within finder on my Mac works. Should i MOVE stuff into it or COPY stuff into it? Is it pointless to copy into it cos i'll end with 2x version of the same file on my laptop? Or is it like a virtual folder that doesn't actually live on my laptop? Initially I dragged folders into it and watched with horror as my hard-drive space started disappearing before my eyes. So yeah, i'm confused. So there is the APP the WEBSITE and the folder on my FINDER on the mac. And I'm struggling to understand which to use and why (and how) (I never used to be this way... I'll put it down to ageing, 👴but dropbox should make something easier to use; having been on this forum I can see there are many others like me!!) thanks for any friendly advice! 🙂2.6KViews0likes9CommentsHaving my personal and business account on the same MacBook pro computer.
Hello, since I bought my new computer, I am not able to have both my personal (basic) and business account on the same computer. I am not sure how to link both accounts to the same device and make it visible on my finder sidebar. They both are still visible and sync-able on my old computer (mac air), but on my new computer, the personal dropbox folder is now just a regular folder that does not sync. In the help section, it says when you log into the desktop app, it will automatically add the computer to your account. However, this only worked for my business account which was the one I used to log into the app for the first time. There doesn't seem to be an option for adding the second account (personal) to the same device. Any advice?Solved2.3KViews0likes7CommentsMoving Dropbox app to external hard drive when I am not the administrator of the account.
I am not the administrator of my office's Dropbox account, and I also use the Dropbox desktop app. My C drive is now full and no longer syncing. I purchased an external hard drive and need to move my desktop app to the external drive. Can you tell me if there's any way to do that when I am not the administrator? The admin of our Dropbox account is not available, so I can't ask them. It took me about 4 minutes to type this because my C drive is so full, I can only type about one character at a time.2.2KViews0likes28CommentsDownload files from dropbox to laptop as Cloud ONLY

Is there a way to change settings or similar that when I click on "Name Dropbox" that it takes me directly to the subfolders on the right? As you can see above, I have to click on "Name Dropbox" > Name > Team Folder creating multiple clicks. I know I can save a favorite directly to the folder, but I don't understand why its structure like this. Also, how can I hide the dropbox cache folder? Thank you.Solved1.7KViews0likes1Comment
