What to do with conflicted copies?
Our office has two desktop computers. Both of them access the same Dropbox. No mobile devices or other computers are involved. In the Dropbox there is a database. The database is _never_ used fromboth computers simultaneously. The ideaby our arrangement is that two different people should be able to edit the database on different computers. We were assuming that changes made from one computer would appear when the file was opened on the other one. Butwe are getting "conflicted copies". Now we are all confused because we don't know which of the files contains the most recent changes. That's the file we want. We are also confused because "conflicted copies" should not appear unless two people worked on the database at the same time. So why does this happen?Solved47KViews2likes23Comments
Updating a file changes the link...
I noticed today that editing a file and resaving it without changing the name now changes the Dropbox link, and it definitely didn't used to do that before. simultaneously work on desktop version Excel files using the same Dropbox account
Good morning, I have a Dropbox Basic account. I have linked my account to three devices in the house. Sometimes my partner and I need to simultaneously edit Excel files in my account. So we both log in with my Dropbox account on two different PCs on which there is the same Dropbox folder on the desktop, so we access the same identical files without any difficulty. The only problem is that when we open the same Excel file to make changes, Dropbox creates conflict copies. For our case, having a single Dropbox account in the family, is there a way to work simultaneously from two devices without having problems? I specify that, if possible, we would prefer to continue working with the desktop version on the PC and not online through for example office.com. Thanks in advance. Shared file not syncing consistently from Ipad MS 365, but it will update from a computer
I have dropbox for business. I have some employees that are not dropbox team members but I would like them to update some shared files through dropbox for reporting purposes. It works seamlessly when they are using a computer, but it rarely works when they are using an ipad or other mobile device (oddly, it seems to work sometimes, but we are unable to repeat the success when it happens). Here is the situation: I shared an excel file with editing privileges that is within my dropbox folders to my employee. From an ipad, the employee selects and opens the file in drop box app which appears to give them an read only preview of the file. Then to edit it they open excel from the dropbox app. They make the edits, close and save. However, the changes they made to the file do not update the original I shared with them from my dropbox folders. When they are using a computer, it works every time. We've shared an Excel file with other users, but they can't edit it in Excel
When someone opens a dropbox excel file that has been shared with them, it seems they are not able to edit in excel, unless they download it, or save via dropbox. Hello, I have a shared folder with other Dropbox users. We would like to create a sub-folder in the Shared folder and have other non-Dropbox users be able to EDIT the files in that sub-folder. the same shared link cannot use somehow.
Hi all, I want to be able to update a file while maintaining the same Dropbox shared link. However, when I replace it with another file with the same name, the link no longer works. The following discussion says it should work, so I guess Dropbox changed the policy? iPad mdwriter app created multiple file copies when Dropbox was offline
I was working offline in mdwriter (simple markdown editor) on Dropbox files while in airplane mode. I went back into normal mode when inside a corporate network wifi where apparently Dropbox is blocked. The Editor showed errors syncing the files that I had modified and also created 2-3 copies of each of them. Question: can Dropbox present itself as „offline“ if a firewall does not permit it to sync normally? Anyone know what is happening here? In the Dropbox the files were showing as 2 weeks old (last time I modified them), so the editor did not / could not modify them in Dropbox (but tried to, and when failing, saved copies, I assume). Later when I disabled the wifi and used cellular data, all of the copies synced & showed up in Dropbox correctly. The original 2 modified files are still not modified in Dropbox and the editor can‘t seem to save them.1.5KViews0likes12Comments
I can't see the Excel updates of my client
Right now, I'm working with a Client who uses Dropbox for her excel spreadsheets and I've never been a fan. She requires me to make changes in the Excel file she has in her Dropbox and I am doing just that. But whenever I make a change or she makes a change in the sheet, we both can't see each other's changes and that is VERY BIG issue as we are working with real time customers and we have to contact as soon as they're on the sheet. Now, we have lost over 20 customers because of this issue and She still doesn't want to switch to any other tool (Like Google Sheet).
