Dropbox Backup
41 TopicsCan we have more folder options like custom folders or sub-folders to add to Computer Backup?
Right now, the automated backup option in Dropbox allows me to sync my Documents, Desktop and Downloads folders. By far the biggest - and most important - folder on my computer is the Music folder though. I can imagine for other people it's Pictures. Could we have a way to automatically backup those folders too? To be really ambitious: would we be able to clone our computer on Dropbox? I used to have an Apple Time Machine that allowed you to do just that. If your computer broke down or was stolen, you could buy a new one, let it download the clone, including not just your documents but your applications and presets too, and you'd be good to go! Please let Dropbox be the new Time Machine.74KViews237likes157CommentsBe able to change Dropbox backup folders names
Add possibility of rename Backup folders. If you have only one computer, it go fine, but if you have more than one, it ends being very confussing. Due iCloud Drive issues, I've changed all of my Macs "synchronized" Desktop and Documents to Dropbox. However, take a look to the picture: It is very difficult to guess what is what. With the possibility to rename them, I could have named "My iMac", "My MBP 13", "My MBP 15". Very easy to see what is what. (As a workaround, we can change to detail view, but could be more easy for all of us be able to change the names).21KViews82likes83CommentsView dropbox backups on app
As described in this thread, the new version of dropbox backup is great but has a major downside: files stored via backups can no longer be accessed within the dropbox app! Quoting @mbriney from the above-linked thread because I can't say it any better: I understand the principle of having the major "backups" be in a different segment of dropbox.. but it shouldn't be that hard to access all the files. Maybe inside the regular current Dropbox app, feature a button that allows up to actually open the files that are in this "backups" section? OR maybe create another "Dropbox Backups" app that will allow us to remotely view these backup files without having to go thru the browser?12KViews21likes23CommentsMissing "Manage Hard Drive Space" option when using Dropbox Backup
So there's a great feature in Dropbox desktop that allows you to see graphically what is taking up all of the space on your hard drive, and very quickly change certain/all dropbox content to online only to free up space. However, it turns out that if you use Dropbox Backup, that manage feature is disabled. I don't fully understand why, as using backup as I see it, makes my desktop and documents live in my Dropbox folder set, and can be used as such, with making my own files online to save space. I appreciate that maybe the Manage Space function may not be able to work against my desktop/documents backup, but I would still expect to be able to manage my main Dropbox Team folder content to release any old offline files easily.2KViews2likes4CommentsSupport distinct Backup location per user account
[I use Dropbox on a Mac; this (problem) might not apply to other operating systems.] I would like to Backup, for example, my Documents folder on multiple user accounts using distinct targets on Dropbox. The current implementation does not seem to allow this. I think the problem stems from having tied the target backup folder name to the computer name. It seems to me that allowing the target to be specified by the user while setting up Backup on each local OS account (user) would make this feature MUCH more useful. Maybe an "Advanced..." button on the Backup set-up dialog would be a good place to allow the user to specify this.1.2KViews0likes3CommentsDropbox Computer Backup
Hello All! So I recently found out about the Computer Backup function within Dropbox and as an Enterprise admin I reached out to Dropbox Support to see if there would be a way to force the clients to enable that function once we enable it in the Admin portal. I was told that it wasn't a function that was available. It would be very helpful for Enterprise customers to be able to force the client to enable that function so that we could better utilize our Dropbox to backup Windows profiles in the chance that our end users get their computer refreshed so that they don't have to worry about transferring that data to a new computer. Also, it would help in case of a hardware failure so we don't have to try and pull the data from a hard drive or worry about data loss if the hard drive fails. I'm pretty sure other Enterprise customers would love having this ability so they don't have to worry about sending communications out to their user base to manually go into the client to enable the function.894Views0likes3CommentsCollect file usage together under one tab
Right now the total amount of space used is shown on one tab and the breakdown of how that space is used is scattered over three other pages. When the account total is larger than you expect, you have to know where to go find the directory usage, the shared folder space used and the backup space usage. It would be really helpful if all of this space information was collected together on a single tab. I went over my account limit, but couldn't figure out why that was because in total the files I knew about used less than 10% of the limit. What I did not realize is that I had a backup that was using 90% of the space--and it was a secondary backup I did not need. Bringing all of the file usage information together would have allowed me to see exactly what was going on.693Views0likes1Commentone step annual backup to external hard drive
It is very difficult to do an overall backup to external hard drive for our company. (We treat dropbox as our cloud server so you hold a lot of data--terrabytes). Right now, we are nearly having to download per file (photogrammetry, large scale aerial imagery), sometimes per folder and it's making our annual backup very very time consuming. Really wish there was a back up to giant external hard drive in one step action that enabled all sub folders. After all, that's what separates Dropbox from Google Drive and Microsoft product is that you do folders so much better. large scale items we use: drones, survey scanners, video traffic count files498Views0likes2CommentsAllow Dropbox Backup to backup the system folders, when not located on C drive
My Windows PC has a C drive for the system, and a D drive for the session folders : Documents, Images, Videos, Download... I would like to synchronise those folders with Dropbox, unfortunately synchronisation is permitted only with folders on drive C (confirmed by Support). At this point, I seriously consider to switch from Dropblx to a more flexible cloud, such as Icedrive which allows synchronisation to any folder on any drive on the PC.195Views0likes2Comments
