50 TopicsWarning message about deleted files
I have received an email alert from Dropbox, advising that I have deleted a large number of files from my Dropbox Pro account. When I log on to the web portal, or when I look on my Mac, all of my files are still there, visible and working. But when I check my deleted folder online, I can see a greyed out list of all of my files in that folder also. I am not sure if they are shown both as "live" and "deleted" simultaneously because the 30 days before permanent deletion occurs hasn't expired yet? Is this a security/macOS Sierra problem? I haven't actively deleted any of these files. The files include files/folders that only I access, as well as those shared with others. I have recently updated my security settings, in case there has been some sort of hack. Do I need to restore all of the files that are in the deleted folder?Solved7.6KViews0likes7CommentsI goofed.... how to move Mac Desktop, Downloads and Documents back to my computer
Please advise if I should post this elsewhere. I think this is my first Dropbox post. I'm on my wife's computer trying to provide tech support. The expression is true for me: I know only enough to be dangerous. 😉 LOL I just use the brute force method of tech support. So if you have any suggestions, very slowly please. Those three folders disappeared from her Mac. There were alias folders in her User folder but no originals at the pointed location. She would take a screenshot and it would disappear and all downloads were missing. I mucked around on her dropbox.com account and found those 3 folders in Dropbox Backup in a folder "Mac (2)" I checked those three in a list where the unchecked folders were online only. Now the originals are in a hidden folder inside of a folder "Mac (2)" which is in her Dropbox folder on her Mac. Her missing screenshots are back on her computer desktop and I can also find them by opening the alias folder in her User folder. So that's a step forward. And the missing downloads are in the Downloads folder. But there are still oddities. When I take screenshot, it creates a folder "Screenshots" inside the Dropbox folder and does not go to the Desktop folder and does not show on her desktop. Also, there is another folder in her Dropbox folder on her computer titled "My Mac (User MacBook Air)". It also has those three folders. I assume that is for her travel Mac. Lastly, if I go to dropbox.com and find my way to Dropbox Backup, the three folders are there. Maybe it would be best to start over completely with Dropbox and just wipe everything. I don't know how to do that. Alternatively, I don't know how to proceed with these three folders to get them back on her Mac completely and then if we want we can set them up so they aren't online only backups. It looks like they are kinds online folders now. I hope this is easy to follow. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. We appreciate.2.2KViews0likes14CommentsDropbox shared folder owner change and deletion
Hey guys, I am a forum novice, so hoping someone can assist me, as there is no support call centre for Dropbox, and my support tickets have gone unanswered. I am the owner of a shared folder on dropbox for a company job. I am no longer on the team and would like to transfer the ownership of the folder and delete the folder from my dropbox, as my subscription has expired and I no longer need the space. I want to delete the folder from my side without affecting the other peoples access or content once transferred. How do I go about this? It's quite urgent so if anyone could assist me soon I would be most grateful.Solved1.9KViews1like3CommentsHow can I remove a folder from my computer, but keep it in my online Dropbox?
oh good, I have a problem. I have a Dropbox folder, let's assume I downloaded it to my computer, when I delete it a window appears reporting that if I delete it on my machine it will also delete it in the cloud Dropbox, but that's not what I want , I want to delete it on my computer and keep it in dropbox, from what I understand Dropbox has a selective synchronization tool, it's an option that appears in the window when I try to delete the folder from my machine, but I didn't understand how that is " selective synchronization" works, but could you explain it to me please? thanks.Solved1.6KViews0likes5CommentsShared folder that was deleted by an outside 3rd party
First, I tried to contact tech support for Dropbox and was informed there are no phone numbers. Clearly that is not true so I am hoping someone in the community can help me. I have/had a shared folder to share confidential work docs with an employee. I pay for my Dropbox and I created the folder and invited the other person. I was under the impression that meant only that person and I had access to the folder. No other invites were sent and, on my side, only saw that person and I on that folder. This employee was performing services for another company (I was aware of the other work) and the other company also uses Dropbox. The other company created folders and shared with my employee. The employee used the same email address for both my company and the other company to log into Dropbox and access the respective folders. The employee's temp assignment with the other company ended and they deleted her from dropbox. Here is where the issue begins. When they deleted her from their folders, they also deleted her from dropbox. When I look into the folder I created and shared with this employee, it shows them as "deleted". When I try to send them a new invite, they are not receiving the invitation and I cannot add them. I have removed them (unshared) the folder so now I am the only owner of the folder. Question - 1. How can another outside entity delete a contact in a folder I own? 2. If the other entity was able to delete the employee from a folder I own and created, could they have had access to its contents? 3. Is there a way I can trace the actions in and of folders I own? (I usually click the 'follow' button for uploads, downloads, etc)Solved1.5KViews0likes4CommentsDeleted folder and files still accessible via shared link
I shared a folder of files a few days ago. Today I deleted the folder and the underlying files. However, the link still works, the files still show up in the download page, and files are still able to be downloaded. To be clear, the folder and files do not exist locally on disk nor on the original dropbox.com location. I physically deleted them. So they should not be accessible via the shared linked, yet they are. Tried multiple browsers, they're still visible and downloadable.1.5KViews1like8CommentsHow can I delete all shared links to a folder and its subfolders?
I'm a photographer and I have a recurring client who I've been shooting for since 2020. During this time I have put all the pics for them in a folder with a "master" shared link, and in specific occasions I have shared links to subfolders as well. Links have been passed around too, so who knows how many people have access to these pictures. Now they want to start fresh, delete all access links including subfolders and have only one person have access to the link to the main folder. Which is the best procedure for this?1.1KViews0likes3Comments
