Enable searching EXIF metadata on website and mobile apps
Hi Dropbox and Carousel team,
I have been a faithful and long time user of both Dropbox and Carousel, but have recently switched to Microsoft OneDrive as my Cloud Drive provider. What I have experienced is that in some ways the Office Online integration is better than with DropBox, but apart from that, the hole experience is not as I have come to expect as when I was using Dropbox. But since I have got 1 TB for free, work, I would need new features from you guys at Dropbox, to make me return :) ... and now back to my enhancement / feature request for Dropbox and Carousel, for both Apps and Website.
Please enable EXIF photo data search in the Carousel App, and hereafter on website as well :) !!
I guess it would be a matter of extending the already implemented full text search in dropbox for include EXIF information. This would enable users of Dropbox, and specifically users of Carousel to be able to search on photos taken on a specific location, GPS tag, or date/year, or folder/album name.
Fellow Dropbox users, please vote on this enhancement request ! :)

Using the dropbox.com website to search through my account, I'm missing a feature:
I would love to have the search function to also look into JPEG metadata like:
- Comments ("XP Comment" in EXIF)
- Tags ("XP Keywords" in EXIF)
- Title ("XP Title" in EXIF)
- Subject ("XP Subject" in EXIF)
- (maybe some others, too).
This would help me find images, since I'm using the metadata to store image information.
The Windows 10 built-in search does at least look into JPEG tags ("XP Keywords" in EXIF). Would be great if Dropbox does the same and better.

It would be nice to be able to make a shared folder containing images that could be searched by the images metadata. If I eg. export and uploads a bounch of images from Lightroom which holds different keywords, credits and descriptions, and then share a folder for my clients. Then my clients could search my archive for their specific needs.
Could this be done?

Just uploaded my photos via the camera uploader.
Without metadata it makes no sense 😢 at all. Please integrate the EXIF-infos: I need infos about the camera, aperture, shutter, time, geoTag etc.

Dropbox is not currently geared to support activities using many pictures.
Functions to store, organize and share many files are there but if those files are photos some key features are missing:
Capability to search not only on file and directory names but as well on metadata content (exif, iptc and xmp data), this should include at least title or caption, description, date picture taken (not the date the file was created or modified), and tags. This is available in Windows explorer and Google Drive.
Capability to view the content of some or all of the metadata fields when required. Capability to edit them would be a plus but less required in my opinion, dedicated applications exist for that. This is available in Windows explorer and in Google Photos when displaying Google Drive Pictures.
Capability to view along with the picture displayed some key metadata information like the date the picture was taken and title.
I have seen that such features have been asked for by users in the past and that the answer has been that the request will be submitted to the development teams. Nothing seemed to happen after that.
So I am wondering if Dropbox can be used soon in a picture oriented activity or if this is not and will not be in the near future in the scope of Dropbox and as a consequence it is wiser to plan using another cloud service for this type of activity.
Any plan to improve that?

- mlourierNew member | Level 2Is there any progress with this Idea?
- jacphotoHelpful | Level 5Google drive paired with Google photo does a better job on that although it is not yet at the level expected to support a serious photo oriented activity.

Let me chime in here and support this request. I am a long time paying customer with > 30000 photos on DropBox. Metadata search (especially IPTC) is sorely missing! i now have to rely on third party solutions to search through my files. Please implement this!

Recently I have lost access to physical drives and had the need to search for images using the tags / captions in Dropbox in an emergency situation (because that's when you need a backup solution to come through for you, right?) Am a longtime paying customer and just assumed that this basic functionality that exists in every other system would allow searching of metadata somehow. Bad assumption. Please implement basic metadata / EXIF data search. This follows in a string of disappointments when it comes to managing and even just viewing photos in Dropbox. You guys have to step up your photo management game.

I am copying my TB of photos to OneDrive now, I'll report if they handle EXIF / Metadata better than DrobBox.
