Notifications are cleared, but messages are left as Unread until I take action on them. My Inbox is my To-Do list.

And I'll bet that's a whole lot more than 99! I like the idea of your inbox being your to-do list - although most of my tasks don't come in email form so that's a no go for me unfortunately. But I have gotten better at managing my personal inbox so that tasks are clear there, so I'll take that as a win 😊
