Alias file in Dropbox following Sonoma

Hello. After loading Sonoma on a laptop, an alias file named MyMac (MacbookPro.local) appeared in Dropbox. It’s my downloads folder and is so large it caused Dropbox to stop syncing. I am concerned that if I remove the alias file from Dropbox, it will permanently delete and leave a hole plus no way to recover data. Has anyone else seen this issue post Sonoma? Any way out? I intend to quit Dropbox once out of this snarl which has eaten up hours and hours. Even Apple’s senior advisors won’t touch this due to high risk, and my device is currently pretty much knee capped.
