Account plan for production status

Hi there,

I've created a Dropbox app that is currently in development status. My account is on a free trial now, but we require production status to move forward. Do we need a paid plan to apply for production status? Purchasing a paid plan seems unnecessary for us because we only use Dropbox app OAuth credentials and won’t store any files in this current account. The users who use Dropbox will have their own accounts with their own plans.

No, you don't need a paid plan to apply for or receive production status for an API app.

Got it. Suppose I applied for production status for an API app and received it successfully. After the free trial expires, will the API app's OAuth credentials work for a lifetime?

An app's development/production status does not depend on the app owner's trial status. The app will remain in production status and continue working if/when the app owner's trial expires.

Note though that the app owner's account does need to be active for the app to be operational. If the app owner's account is disabled, the app itself will also be effectively disabled and stop working. The app owner can remain on the Basic (free) plan though.
