DBChooser for iOS - how to build locally
Hi,
I have been using the DBChooser framework in my app for a few years and it's been working fine, until iOS18 came out and now it fails to open the Dropbox app when invoked, with this message:
BUG IN CLIENT OF UIKIT: The caller of UIApplication.openURL(_:) needs to migrate to the non-deprecated UIApplication.open(_:options:completionHandler:).
Seeing that DBChooser has been 'deprecated' on the Dropbox developer website, and that the Github repo hasn't been updated in 11 years, I thought I'd at least be able to download the code on my Mac and then be able to build the framework locally, and possibly fix some of the deprecation issues. Unfortunately the downloaded project fails to compile on my Mac.
The error I get is in the 'Run Script' phase:
accessing build database "/Users/myname/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/DBChooser-colttgencgxlykfovqhahsshavkt/Build/Intermediates.noindex/XCBuildData/build.db": database is locked Possibly there are two concurrent builds running in the same filesystem location.
Can anyone help me figure this out?
I am using Xcode 16.1, running macOS 15.1.

Unfortunately, the Dropbox iOS Chooser is deprecated and no longer receiving updates, so we can't offer support for it. We recommend migrating to a different option. Please refer to the documentation for more information. Apologies I can't be of more help in that regard!

Thanks for confirming this. One of the recommended alternatives is to use UIDocumentBrowserViewController or UIDocumentPickerViewController. With the latter, we can possibly pass a `directoryURL` to give the user a specific folder to pick from, which might be useful if we can pass in the Dropbox folder. But is there a way to access the user's Dropbox folder (if connected to iCloud Drive)?

I'm afraid Dropbox doesn't have any official support resources or documentation for those as those interfaces are made by Apple, so I can't offer guidance on those. I recommend referring to Apple's resources regarding those interfaces for information on the options they offer.

Hi,
Thanks for confirming. One of the alternatives is to use 'UIDocumentBrowserViewController'. Do you know if it's possible to open that to the specific 'Dropbox' folder on iCloud Drive? That should be sufficient as an alternative.
